Caterpillar or Cummins re-manufactured or good used diesel propulsion engines

Share/Bookmark
Many vessel operators who choose to use re-manufactured or good used diesel propulsion engines or generators, specify the two most coveted names popular in the US , Caterpillar or Cummins. And rightfully so because of their high quality and extensive service network. But did you know , the Detroit Diesel name which is the third most popular brand , also has an extensive service network . While Detroit engines seem to have fallen out of favor with some operators , they are a very competitive alternative when it comes to used or re-manufactured engines. An equivalent Detroit engine of the same horsepower and displacement will typically cost one third less to rebuild than Cat or Cummins and should not be overlooked when considering re-power alternatives.

My Marine Tracker LLC can provide high quality rebuilt Detroit engines for your application with popular work-boat models being the 71, 91 and 149 series and typically in the ‘NA’ configuration. If you are considering a re-power project , please give the Tracker a call to explore your best options. My Marine Tracker has supervised many re-power projects over the last 20+ years and know what all is required to change your vessel’s engines.

Video: Caterpillar D379 Marine Engines from My Marine Tracker

I don't often get to see some of the products we ship.  My Marine Tracker ships worldwide and many times I never see the engine, vessel or crane during the transaction.  This particular set of marine engines were a fun experience for me and my family.  These two D379 marine engines originated in a shipyard in Seattle, WA.  I arranged to sell the two engines a tow boat operator in Louisville Ky.

Olson Trucking in Holmen WI, just miles from my business in the La Crosse WI area was already in Seattle and needed a load back to the La Crosse area.  They picked up the engines and brought them back to Holmen to add to the load before transporting to Louisville.  They were in the area for approximately 20 hours.

The engines are now in Louisville to be installed in push boats (commonly known as tug boats) on the Ohio River,  pushing barges up and down the river.

My children and I went to view the engines and took these photos.  What a great experience for me as well as my family.
